  • When a complaint is filed, an investigator contacts the Respondent for his/her side of the story, and gathers medical records for review within the first 30 days.
  • If it is not dismissed, then a formal investigation is opened, and further information is collected.
  • The records are sequentially numbered, sorted into categories (billing, labs, office notes, etc), and placed in a file folder located in our document management database called Laserfiche.
  • Everyone- the Board, the reviewers, the legal department- uses this file in dealing with this case, so we avoid multiple copies, and we're all looking at the same pages.
  • When the data gathering is complete, it is referred for expert review regarding standard of care.
